Senior Day Thriller Clinches GSC Tournament Berth

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs clinched a berth in next week's Gulf South Conference Tournament with a a 2-1 double-overtime win over Valdosta State Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs (9-6-1, 7-5-1 GSC) struck first in the 13th minute. After Nikesha Mitchell (Toronto, Ontario/Cedarbrae C.I.) drew a foul inside the box, Caitlin Barnes (Olive Branch, Miss./Center Hill HS) converted the ensuing penalty for her fourth goal of the season.
• The Blazers (10-5-2, 8-4-2) equalized in the 68th minute as Taylor Snell gathered a loose ball 25 yards from the goal on the left side. Her long shot bounced into the net off the right post for her 11th goal of the season.
Melissa Tammi (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) scored the golden goal in the 104th minute. She gathered a loose ball 30 yards out on the left side. Her curling shot went through the goalkeeper's hands and into the net for Tammi's first goal of the season.

KEY STATS:
• VSU out-shot the Lady Bucs 17-11, including an 8-5 edge in shots on goal.
Riley Chafin (Little Rock, Ark./Central HS) made seven saves for the Lady Bucs.

GSC TOURNAMENT PICTURE:
The eight teams for next week's GSC Tournament are set, but all seeds are still yet to be determined. Lee and Mississippi College are tied for first with 33 points, followed by third-place North Alabama with 31. West Florida is in fourth place with 28, followed by Valdosta State with 26. The Lady Bucs are in sixth with 22 points, followed by West Alabama and West Georgia with 21 each. 

SENIOR DAY:
The Lady Bucs honored three seniors in pregame Senior Day ceremonies: Lauren Magdefrau (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons HS), Nikesha Mitchell (Toronto, Ontario/Cedarbrae C.I.) and Autumn Woods (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS).

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs wrap up the regular season Thursday night at 5 p.m. as they host Union. With a win, CBU would clinch the No. 6 seed. CBU will play on the road in the GSC quarterfinals Tuesday, Oct. 31, with the opponent, location and time to be determined. The semifinals will be Friday, Nov. 3, in Montgomery, Ala., with the championship game set for Sunday, Nov. 5, in Montgomery.
