Lady Bucs Outlast Scots in Five

MEMPHIS-After dropping the first two sets, the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs rallied for a five-set win over Lyon Tuesday night at Canale Arena in their final non-conference match of the season.

CBU 3, Lyon 2 (19-25, 24-26, 25-19, 25-20, 15-9):
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• After the teams traded points to start the opening set, Lyon (15-14) used a 7-2 burst to open a 12-7 lead, and they used a five-point run later in the set to stretch out a 19-11 edge. CBU (13-15) scored the next four to close within 19-15, but they were unable to come closer than four as Lyon won 25-19.
• The Lady Bucs jumped to a quick 5-1 edge in the first set, but Lyon used an 8-3 burst to take a 15-14 lead. After the teams traded leads several times, CBU took a 23-21 lead on a Kapria Manning (Olive Branch, Miss./Center Hill HS) kill. After Lyon tied the set at 23, a Mollie Wadsworth (Hernando, Miss./Northpoint Christian HS) kill gave the Lady Bucs a chance to serve for set point, but the Scots scored the final three points to take a 26-24 win and a 2-0 lead.
• The Scots again started strong in the third set, taking a 6-3 lead, but the Lady Bucs answered with a 12-3 run to take a 15-9 lead on a Manning kill. The Scots came within two points at 19-17, but the Lady Bucs scored six of the last eight to win 25-19.
• Lyon used an 8-1 run to take an 18-14 lead in the fourth set, but the Lady Bucs closed the set with a 10-1 run to win 25-20 on a Wadsworth kill, forcing a decisive fifth set.
• CBU scored the first four points in the final set, two on back-to-back Gennah Schoen (Portland, Ore./David Douglas HS) kills, and never trailed. The Scots came within a point three times, last at 7-6, before an Erica Maurer (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) kill and back-to-back Manning kills gave them a 10-6 edge. After a service error brought Lyon within an 11-9 margin, the Lady Bucs scored the last four points, clinching a 15-9 win on a double-block by Schoen and Wadsworth.
