MONTEVALLO, Ala.-GSC Freshman of the Year Cesare Marconi scored in each half to lead host Montevallo to a 2-1 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Tuesday night in the Gulf South Conference quarterfinals.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Montevallo (9-4-4) struck first in the 32nd minute as Marconi converted off a cross, firing a shot into the bottom right corner.
• Marconi doubled the Falcons' lead in the 59th minute when he scored on a free kick.
• The Bucs (7-9-2) broke through in the 74th minute as GSC Player of the Year
Brendan Bennett (Belfast, Northern Ireland/St. Mary's Christian Brothers Grammar School) scored his ninth goal off a cross from Blake Lashlee# after Lashlee broke away from the Falcon defense and sent a cross into the box for him.
• CBU nearly equalized in the 83rd minute as they drew a foul in the box for a penalty, but the shot sailed over the crossbar to leave Montevallo ahead.

• The Bucs out-shot Montevallo 17-11, including an 11-8 edge in shots on goal.
