MEMPHIS-First-place West Florida racked up 16 blocks as they defeated the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs in four sets Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.
UWF 3, CBU 1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-11):
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs (9-11, 4-4 GSC) never trailed in the first set, building an early 10-5 lead and never allowing UWF to tie the set. The Argos drew within one point 11 times, as late as 24-23, before an
Erica Maurer (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) kill ended the set with a 25-23 CBU win.
• UWF (15-4, 7-0) jumped to early leads of 5-1, 7-2 and 10-3 in the second set. CBU used a 6-1 run to come within 12-10 on an
Alexa Henderson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie HS) ace, but the Argos scored the next four and never let the Lady Bucs come closer than four points again in a 25-15 win.
• In the third set, the teams traded runs early with eight ties, as late as 15-15, before the Argos used a five-point burst to take the lead for good at 20-15.The Lady Bucs scored four of the next five to come within 21-19 on an attack error, but UWF closed the set with four straight to win 25-19.
• After another back-and-forth start in the third set, the Argos broke a 5-5 tie with an eight-point run to take a 13-5 lead, and they hit .480 for the set as they pulled away to a 25-11 win to clinch the victory.
KEY STATS:

Mary Kathryn Miller (Fulton, Ky./Fulton City HS) led teh Lady Bucs with 13 kills, hitting .286 with three solo blocks and three digs for 16 points.
• Maurer hit .214 with 11 kills and two blocks.

Emma Lenoir (Chattanooga, Tenn./East Hamilton HS) added 10 kills and 11 digs.
•
Blythe Clausen (Hendersonvile, Tenn./Pope John Paul II HS) notched a team-best 16 digs.
•
Ke'alohilani Wong (Honolulu, Hawaii/Kamehameha HS) garnered nine digs.
• Henderson dished out 37 assists with eight digs, three aces and two kills.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs step out of GSC play next week. They hit the road Tuesday night at 6 p.m. as they visit Trevecca Nazarene, with the South Region Crossover scheduled for Birmingham, Ala., Friday and Saturday. Their next home match is Tuesday, Oct. 24, when they host Lyon at 7 p.m.
