Bucs Shoot Down Marauders 74-50 in Opener

WILBERFORCE, Ohio-The Christian Brothers University Bucs made 15 three-pointers as they rolled to a 74-50 season-opening win at Central State Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Marauders (0-1) opened the game with a 7-0 run in the game's first three minutes.
• CBU (1-0) took their first lead with an 11-2 run capped by an Alex Trentman (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart HS) free throw that gave them an 11-9 lead with 12:52 remaining.
• Another 11-2 run later in the half, capped by a pair of Luke Rudy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills HS) three-pointers, gave the Bucs a 22-15 lead they would not relinquish.
• The Marauders mounted a comeback early in the second half as Dwight Richards Jr. scored six points during an 8-0 run that cut the CBU lead to 38-36 on a Sterling Gilmore layup with 14:48 remaining.
Adam Dieball (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) answered with a layup to spark a 14-4 burst capped by another Dieball layup that gave the Bucs a 52-40 lead with 9:15 remaining.
• CBU put it out of reach with a 14-0 run capped by a Joe Laravie (Kettering, Ohio/Alter HS) triple with 3:13 remaining to extend the Bucs' lead to 68-44. Laravie scored 10 of his game-high 19 points during the run.

KEY STATS:
• Laravie scored his game-high 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 5-of-7 from three-point range. He added five rebounds and four assists as he played all 40 minutes.
Brad Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder HS) scored 16, making 4-of-8 three-pointers, to go with six assists and three rebounds in 37 minutes.
• Rudy scored 15 in his college debut as he shot 5-of-7, all from three-point range.
• Dieball scored 10 with seven rebounds and four assists as he was limited to 20 minutes by foul trouble.
Jacob Lyons (Hernando, Miss./Christian Brothers HS) grabbed six rebounds with four points, three assists and two blocks in his college debut.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Bucs play their next two games at home, beginning Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they host the Marauders for a rematch. CBU also plays at Canale Arena Wednesday night at 7 p.m. as they face Lane.
