MEMPHIS-No. 11 Valdosta State converted 23 hits into 20 runs as they rolled to a 20-4 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Sunday afternoon at Bland Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• VSU (12-2, 3-0 GSC) pounced for three runs in the top of the first on four singles and a double.
• The Lady Blazers put it away an inning later with an eight-run second inning, capitalizing on four singles, four doubles and a walk.
• CBU (2-9, 0-3) scored four runs in the bottom of the second. Singles by
Kylie Steagall (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS),
Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) and
Alexis Seward (Chino, Calif./Chino HS) loaded the bases with no outs.
Toni Rizzo (St. Rose, La./John Curtis Christian) laid down a bunt single to plate Steagall.
Sierra Anderson (Olive Branch, Miss./Lewisburg HS) brought Parsels home with an RBI groundout.
Maddi Welch (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) hit a two-out single through the left side to plateRizzo, and
Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) capped the rally with another single through the left side to trim the deficit to 11-4.
• VSU tacked on five more in the top of the fourth on a homer, four singles and an error.
• The Lady Blazers set the final margin with a four-run fifth as Chelsea Canara and Brandy Morgan each hit two-run homers.
