HEAD COACH MIKE NIENABER'S THOUGHTS:
"All's well that ends well. What a game. Seab Webster, what a great player he is. We did a good job in the second half, because we turned him loose there the last eight minutes of the first half. Of course, a big part of the first half was when we lost Adam and Jeff to foul trouble, we played too fast."
"I told the guys the first timeout when we lost Adam, Jeff was still in the game, guys we've got to slow down. We're sitting there with an eight to 10-point lead, playing as good as we've played all year to build that lead against a team like Huntsville. And we just got in a hurry. We do that sometimes."
"I told the guys before the game, and I repeated it now that it happened, this was a chance for the biggest win any of these players have had since they've been here. None of these guys have played in a bigger game as far as to win it. Charlie's freshman year we got to the Gulf South championship game, and he played instrumental minutes in that game. But as far as the overall NCAA ramifications, this is such a big win for us NCAA-wise. And part of it, you know when West Florida sees this score, they're not going to be happy campers. We've got a job to do Saturday. We've got to enjoy this tonight, but come in here tomorrow and get ready for Saturday. North Alabama is always a tough team to take, and they've gotten us the last three or four times now, we've let some games get away with them."
On Alex Trentman's effort:
"I feel like over the last two or three weeks, he's really taken it up to another level. He's scoring inside. They've heard me say it a million times, and I tell Adam this when he gets off to a slow start from three. Get a couple of baskets around the hoop, then when you get an open three you don't feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders. I think it's a factor in why we're playing better, we're starting to get the ball inside to Alex and Cody. The more we do that, it gets harder to guard us. Everybody's used to doubling down on Adam, everybody's used to collapsing and it's gotten Adam almost a little tentative in there. But we've got other guys that can really play in the post and Adam's a great guy to have standing at the top of the key, because if his guy wants to collapse down we'll kick it out and take that three all the time."
On Joe Laravie's game:
"The money plays. He drove the basket and hit Cody on the back-cut. We talk about it all the time. It's not always penetrate and kick for a three, because everybody tends to ball-watch. If you see your guy take his eye off you, back-cut because we'd rather have a layup than a three. He made that and he made a couple of huge threes. The one that Joe hit late, you talk about ice water for a freshman. It's hard to believe sometimes when you watch those kids play that they're as young as they are."
"This game was a much faster pace than we really wanted. A lot of that happened that last eight minutes of the first half, when we needed to be playing slower."
"I'm so happy for these guys and I'm so proud of them, because at the end of the day, they do it. They either make the plays or they don't make the plays. They step up and make shots or they don't. I think coaching is important, but in this day and age, I think it's gotten almost overblown sometimes. This is a player's game. They make plays or they don't make plays. As a coach, you try to put them in position where they can, but at the end of the day they step up and make shots like we did, and Huntsville did too, or they don't. That's what it boils down to."
