Lions Drop Bucs 5-1

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Bucs took a first-inning lead, but visiting Lindenwood rallied for a 5-1 win Saturday afternoon at Nadicksbernd Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• For the third straight game, the Bucs (1-2) scored in the bottom of the first. Mickey Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS) led off with a double down the left field line and moved to third on a Michael Halley (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) flyout. Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy) drove him in when he grounded into a force play.
• The Lions (1-1) knotted the game with a run in the top of the second on a single, a sacrifice bunt, an error and a sacrifice fly.
• Lindenwood took the lead for good in the fifth on a walk, a double and an RBI groundout.
• The Lions tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth on two singles, a double and an error.
• Lindenwood set the final margin with a run in the top of the ninth on two walks and a single.

KEY STATS:
• Smith went 2-for-5 with a run.
• Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base.
• Goodwin went 0-for-2 but walked twice.
• Kyle Hindman (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) reached on a pinch-hit single in his only at-bat.
• Ryan Abone (Germantown, Tenn./Houston HS) threw a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts.
• Gil Erwin (Covington, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) went six innings and allowed four runs, two earned, on six hits and a walk.
