Tigers Pull Away From Bucs 5-2

LIVINGSTON, Ala.-Host West Alabama scored the go-ahead run in the fifth and two more in the eighth as they pulled away to a 5-2 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Monday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bucs (7-16, 3-9 GSC) opened the scoring in the top of the first as they scored without a hit. Nick Traylor (Germantown, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) worked a leadoff walk and stole second. Consecutive walks to Joe Mattson (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy), Riley Kilgore (Cordova, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) and Casey Goodwin (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) pushed him across for the game's first run.
• The Tigers (15-7, 8-4) tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a run on two walks and two errors.
• CBU scored another unearned run in the top of the second. Taylor Angley-Holman (Redding, Calif./Enterprise HS) singled and moved to third on an error on a pickoff attempt, and he scored when Taylor King (Water Valley, Miss./Water Valley HS) singled to right with two out.
• UWA tied the game again in the bottom of the second with a run on a single, an error, a stolen base and a sacrifice fly.
• The Tigers scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth as they took advantage of two singles and a sacrifice bunt.
• UWA set the final margin with two eighth-inning runs on two doubles and a single.
• The Bucs loaded the bases in the ninth on singles by Brandon Dodd (Arlington, Tenn./Arlington HS), Angley-Holman and Jared Cramer (Olive Branch, Miss./DeSoto Central HS), but a pair of strikeouts ended the game.

KEY STATS:
• Angley-Holman went 3-for-4 with a steal and a run.
• King was 2-for-5 with one RBI.
• Traylor went 1-for-4 with a walk, a steal and a run.
• King made his first start on the mound for the Bucs, pitching three and two-thirds innings as he allowed two unearned runs on a hit and three walks. He struck out two.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Bucs open a five-game homestand Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they host Bethel.
