MEMPHIS-Visiting Mississippi College scored five runs in the top of the first inning in both games as they swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon.

GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
MC (16-11, 8-6 GSC) scored five in the first and four in the seventh as they pulled away to a 12-1 win in the opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Choctaws used a double, three singles, two walks and a hit batter to plate five runs in the top of the first inning.
• MC added a run in the fourth on a single and an error.
• The Lady Choctaws added two more runs in the top of the sixth to extend their lead to 8-0 on three singles and an error.
• The Lady Bucs (4-23, 0-14) scored a run in the bottom of the sixth. Kylie Steagall (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) singled, and Maddi Welch (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) worked a walk. After Blake Andres (Arlington, Tenn./Briarcrest HS) sacrificed them to second and third, Julia Schassburger (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central HS) singled to score Steagall.
• MC added four runs to its lead in the top of the seventh on a walk, two singles and two doubles.

KEY STATS:
• Schassburger went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
• Steagall was 1-for-3 with a run.

GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Lady Choctaws scored five in the first, two in the second and one in the fifth to claim an 8-0 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• MC scored five runs in the top of the first on two singles, a double, two hit batters and a two-run homer by Kristen Qualls.
• The Lady Choctaws extended their lead to 7-0 in the second inning on a walk and a two-run shot by Tylan Buckley.
• MC set the final margin with a run on three-straight singles in the top of the fifth.

KEY STATS:
• Schassburger was 1-for-2 with a double.
• Welch went 1-for-3.
• Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) was 1-for-3.
