Julia Schassburger (Dyer, Ind., Lake Central HS) threw her first career no-hitter, CBU's first since 2009, in game one as the Lady Bucs swept LeMoyne-Owen 7-1 and 15-1 Tuesday at Bland Field.
GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
Schassburger allowed just three baserunners, allowing a first-inning walk, a sixth-inning walk and a two-out sixth-inning error as she threw the no-hitter. CBU scored five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to stretch out the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs (6-24) opened the scoring with a run in the first without a hit.
Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) and Schassburger worked back-to-back one-out walks. After a double-steal moved them to second and third,
Toni Rizzo (St. Rose, La./John Curtis Christian) scored Oyhenart with a sacrifice fly.
• CBU added another run in the fourth.
Maddi Welch (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) singled and scored on an
Abby Ferreira (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus HS) double to right.
• The Lady Bucs extended their lead to 4-0 in the fifth. Oyhenart singled and stole second, scoring on a Rizzo single. After stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch, Rizzo came home on a Welch single.
• The Lady Magicians (2-9) scored a run in the sixth on a walk, a passed ball, a sacrifice bunt and a two-out error.
• CBU set the final margin with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Pinch-hitter
Blake Andres (Arlington, Tenn./Briarcrest HS) walked, and Oyhenart followed with a double. Schassburger tripled to right to score them, and she scored on a Rizzo single.
KEY STATS:
• Schassburger struck out five as she pitched around a pair of walks, allowing one unearned run. She also went 1-for-3 with a walk, a triple, a stolen base and a run.
• Oyhenart was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, two steals and three runs.
• Rizzo went 2-for-3 with two steals, a run and three RBI.
• Welch was 2-for-4 with a steal, a run and one RBI.
• Ferreira went 1-for-1 with two walks and one RBI.

Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) was 1-for-1 with a double, a walk and a steal.
GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Lady Bucs scored six runs in the first and fourth innings as they rolled to a 15-1 win in the nightcap.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring six runs. Oyhenart drew a one-out walk and scored on a two-out
Lauren Provence (Millington, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) triple. Walks to Rizzo and Welch loaded the bases for
Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS), who hit a two-run single. Ferreira reached on a two-base error, scoring two more, and Johnson reached on an error to bring Ferreira home.
• CBU added three more runs an inning later. Schassburger started the inning with a single, and Provence worked a walk. Rizzo reached on an error on her sacrifice bunt, allowing Schassburger to score and sending Provence to third. A Parsels sacrifice fly scored Provence, and Rizzo scored when Ferreira doubled to deep left-center.
• LOC scored a run in the fourth on a hit batter and a double.
• The Lady Bucs put it out of reach with a six-run fourth. Welch singled and stole second, scoring when Ferreira doubled off the fence in left-center. Johnson and Steagall each followed with RBI doubles, and OYhenart's single plated Steagall. Singles by
Shelby Crocker (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) and Andres loaded the bases for Welch, who hit a two-run single to right-center to set the final margin.
KEY STATS:

Jenna Cotter (Collierville, Tenn./Houston HS) earned the win, allowing one run as she scattered two hits and a walk against four strikeouts in four innings.

Sierra Anderson (Olive Branch, Miss./Lewisburg HS) threw a scoreless fifth.
• Provence went 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk, three runs and one RBI.
• Ferreira was 2-for-3 with a walk, two doubles, two runs and two RBI.
• Welch went 2-for-3 with a walk, a steal, two runs and two RBI.
• Johnson was 2-for-3 with a steal, a run and one RBI.
• Steagall went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and one RBI.
• Rizzo stole two bases and scored two runs without an official at-bat, reaching on a walk and an error on her sacrifice.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs hit the road for a GSC series at West Florida this weekend, with a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday both set to begin at noon. They return home Wednesday, March 29, when they host Auburn-Montgomery for a noon doubleheader that starts a season-long seven-game homestand.
