MEMPHIS-No. 16 Alabama Huntsville swept a Gulf South Conference doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon at Bland Field.
GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
Alabama Huntsville (15-5, 6-2 GSC) scored three runs or more in three different innings as they won 15-3 in the first game.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• UAH plated a run in the top of the first inning on three singles.
• The Chargers blew it open with a four-run second inning on a single, a hit batter, a double and a three-run Kaitlyn Bannister homer.
• UAH tacked on a run in the third inning on a solo homer by Erin Jewell to take a 6-0 lead.
• The Lady Bucs (4-15, 0-8) halved the deficit in the bottom of the inning.
Toni Rizzo (St. Rose, La./John Curtis Christian) started the inning when she reached base on a passed ball on a strikeout.
Abby Ferreira (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus HS) followed with a single, and they moved to second and third on a double-steal.
Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) drove Rizzo in with a bunt single, and
Kylie Steagall (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) followed with a two-run double.
• The Chargers scored three in the fourth on a single, a two-run Taylor Wascavage homer and a solo homer by Brooke Miller.
• UAH set the final margin with a six-run seventh inning, taking advantage of five singles and a three-run homer by Reagan Malone.
KEY STATS:
• Steagall was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
• Johnson went 1-for-4 with a run and one RBI.
• Rizzo was 1-for-2 with a run and a stolen base.
• Ferreira went 1-for-2 with a run and a stolen base.

GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
UAH scored twice in the first inning and twice in the sixth as pitcher Emily Glover threw a two-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Chargers scored two runs in the first on two singles and a double.
• UAH set the final margin with two runs in the sixth on two singles and a double.
KEY STATS:
• Johnson went 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
