Lions Top Lady Bucs 8-6, 5-2

FLORENCE, Ala.-Host North Alabama swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Sunday, rallying from behind in both games as they won 8-6 and 5-2.

GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Lady Bucs (6-39, 0-29) jumped to a 3-0 first-inning lead, and the game was tied in the fourth before UNA (29-14, 19-10 GSC) scored the last two runs to win 8-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• CBU plated three in the top of the first. Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) reached on an error and moved to second on a bunt single by Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS). Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) sacrificed them to second and third, and a two-out Kylie Steagall (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) single scored Johnson and moved Oyhenart to third. Steagall moved to second on a wild pitch, and a Maddi Welch (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) single scored both Steagall and Oyhenart to give CBU a 3-0 lead.
• The Lions scored three in the bottom of the inning on a walk, a double and a two-run Marissa Hancock homer.
• UNA took the lead with two more in the second on three singles and an error.
• The Lady Bucs halved the deficit in the third inning. Oyhenart walked, moved to second on a Parsels sacrifice and moved to third on a Sierra Anderson (Olive Branch, Miss./Lewisburg HS) groundout. After Steagall walked, Welch singled to score Oyhenart.
• The Lions added another run in the third on a single, a stolen base and two groundouts.
• CBU tied the game with a two-out rally in the fourth. Oyhenart started the rally with a two-out double. After Parsels walked, Alexis Seward (Chino, Calif./Chino HS) hit a two-run double to right-center to tie the game at six.
• UNA scored the go-ahead run in the fourth on a walk and two singles, all with two out.
• The Lions set the final margin with a fifth-inning run on two singles, a double-steal and a sacrifice fly.

KEY STATS:
• Welch went 3-for-4 with three RBI.
• Oyhenart was 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs.
• Steagall went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and one RBI.
• Seward was 1-for-1 with a double and two RBI.
• Johnson went 1-for-4 with a run.
• Anderson was 1-for-3.
• Blake Andres (Arlington, Tenn./Briarcrest HS) went 1-for-3 with a walk.
• Anderson threw a scoreless sixth inning, pitching around a walk.

GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
Again the Lady Bucs took a lead, this time 2-1 in the second, but the Lions scored twice in the fourth and fifth innings to win 5-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• UNA struck first with a first-inning run on a two-out solo homer by Sydney Sanders.
• The Lady Bucs scored twice in the top of the second. Steagall worked a one-out walk and moved to second on a Welch single. Abby Ferreira (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus HS) singled, and a throwing error on the play scored Steagall and sent Welch to third. Welch came home on a groundout by Lauren Provence (Millington, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) to give CBU a 2-1 lead that would last into the fourth.
• The Lions regained the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth with two runs on a walk, a single and a double.
• UNA set the final margin with two more in the fifth on a walk, a double and an error.

KEY STATS:
• Ferreira went 2-for-3.
• Welch was 1-for-3 with a run.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs and Lions meet again Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. They wrap up the season at home next weekend against Shorter, hosting a 2 p.m. doubleheader Saturday and a 2 p.m. single game Sunday.
