MEMPHIS-Visiting Shorter swept a Gulf South Conference doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Friday at Bland Field, winning the opener 5-1 and claiming a 3-1 win in the nightcap.
GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
Shorter (27-22, 16-15 GSC) scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning as they rallied for a 5-1 win after CBU (6-43, 0-32) had taken an early 1-0 lead.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs opened the scoring with a run in the second inning.
Abby Ferreira (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus HS) walked and moved to second on an
Alexis Seward (Chino, Calif./Chino HS) groundout, scoring when
Sierra Anderson (Olive Branch, Miss./Lewisburg HS) singled to right-center.
• Shorter tied the game in the top of the fourth on a two-out solo homer by Savannah Thomas.
• The Lady Hawks took the lead with a four-run fifth inning, taking advantage of four singles and two doubles.
KEY STATS:
• Ferreira went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run.
• Anderson was 1-for-3 with one RBI, and she threw two and a third scoreless innings of relief.

Kylie Steagall (San Diego, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) went 1-for-3 with a double.

GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
Shorter scored a run in each of the first three innings and held on for a 3-1 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Shorter scored first in the top of the first with a run on a double, a stolen base and a sacrifice fly.
• The Lady Hawks added another in the second on a walk, a sacrifice and a double.
• CBU plated a run in the bottom of the second. Maddison Welch worked a leadoff walk. After moving to second on a Ferreira sacrifice, she scored when
Alexis Seward (Chino, Calif./Chino HS) singled up the middle.
• Shorter tacked on another run in the third on a double and a single.
KEY STATS
• Welch went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and a run.
• Seward was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) went 1-for-3.
