ROLLA, Mo.-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs claimed a pair of five-set wins Saturday afternoon in the Missouri S&T Middle of Everywhere Classic, defeating Pittsburg State and William Jewell.
CBU 3, Pittsburg State 2 (12-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-19, 17-15):
WHAT HAPPENED:
After allowing Pittsburg State (2-5) to hit .458 in a lopsided first set, the Lady Bucs (5-3) rallied to win the last three sets and claim the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs scored the first three points of the match and held a 7-5 lead in the first set before the Gorillas exploded for a 9-1 run, eventually pulling away to a 25-12 win.
• Again in the second set, CBU jumped to a quick 3-1 lead. And again, PSU answered with a seven-point run to take a commanding lead at 8-3 and later 12-5. Then, the Lady Bucs used a 10-1 run to take a 15-13 edge, but the Gorillas rallied to regain the lead and eventually won the set at 25-22.
• The third set was back-and-forth until a seven-point CBU run capped by a
Gennah Schoen (Portland, Ore./David Douglas HS) kill gave them a 17-11 lead, and they never allowed the Gorillas closer than three again in a 25-19 win.
• The Lady Bucs took a quick 9-3 lead in the fourth set, and they never allowed PSU closer than four points in a 25-19 win, sending the match to a decisive fifth set.
• Neither team could create any separation in the fifth set, with no lead of more than two points in the set. The Lady Bucs took a 14-12 lead on an
Emma Lenoir (Chattanooga, Tenn./East Hamilton HS) kill, but the Gorillas scored three straight to serve for match point ahead 15-14. This time, CBU rallied with three straight points, the first two on a kill and an ace, both by Lenoir, before a
Mollie Wadsworth (Hernando, Miss./Northpoint Christian HS) kill gave them a 17-15 win and the match.
KEY STATS:
• Lenoir pounded a match-high 19 kills with 15 digs and three aces.

Erica Maurer (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) hit .286 with 10 kills and three digs.

Mary Kathryn Miller (Fulton, Ky./Fulton City HS) added nine kills with four blocks.
• Schoen added seven kills and five blocks.

Anna Graziosi (Lakeland, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) dished out 47 assists with six digs.

Blythe Clausen (Hendersonvile, Tenn./Pope John Paul II HS) garnered 23 digs.

CBU 3, William Jewell 2 (25-21, 17-25, 18-25, 25-22, 15-13):
WHAT HAPPENED:
After taking an early lead, the Lady Bucs dug a 2-1 hole before hitting .250 in the fourth set and .429 in the fifth to earn the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Cardinals (2-6) took control early in the first set, using a six-point run to take an 8-4 edge. CBU tied the set back up at 12 when a Lenoir kill capped a four-point run, and the Lady Bucs scored six of the last seven points to rally for a 25-21 win.
• CBU took a quick 5-0 lead in the second set, and they held the lead as late as 12-9 before the Cardinals took a 17-12 lead with an eight-point run, eventually winning 25-17.
• Another eight-point run in the middle of the third set gave WJC a commanding lead, this time 15-8, and they built their lead to 20-9 before winning 25-18.
• In the fourth set it was CBU who took control with a six-point run, taking an 8-4 lead early. CBU stretched its lead to 15-9 before a four-point run pulled the Cardinals within two. Three straight CBU points extended the lead to 18-13, and they held on for a 25-22 win on a double-block by Maurer and Miller to force another decisive fifth set.
• As with the first match, neither team led by more than two points in the fifth set, with nine ties and three lead changes. Miller delivered the match-winning points for CBU, giving the Lady Bucs a 14-13 lead on a kill and clinching the match with a block.
KEY STATS:
• Schoen led the Lady Bucs with 14 kills, hitting .241 with four blocks and four digs.
• Lenoir had 11 kills and 14 digs.
• Miller hit .273 with nine kills and six blocks.
• Clausen had a team-best 18 digs.
• Wong notched 11 digs.
• Graziosi collected 45 assists with nine digs and two aces.

The Lady Bucs hit the road for another tournament next weekend, this time at Arkansas Tech. They face Washburn and Arkansas Tech Friday and Central Missouri and St. Edward's Saturday. Their next home match is their GSC opener Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m.
