Lady Bucs Swept at Arkansas Tech

MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs lost a pair of matches in the Holiday Inn Spikefest at Arkansas Tech Friday, losing to No. 23 Washburn and host Arkansas Tech.

No. 23 Washburn 3, CBU 1 (22-25, 25-11, 25-16, 25-17):
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Lady Bucs (5-5) won the first set, but No. 23 Washburn (7-2) rolled to wins in the next three to claim the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• CBU used a five-point run to take a 6-1 lead in the opening set on a double-block by Gennah Schoen (Portland, Ore./David Douglas HS) and Mollie Wadsworth (Hernando, Miss./Northpoint Christian HS), but the Ichabods rallied to knot the set at nine. CBU used a 6-1 burst to take a 17-13 edge on another double-block, this one by Mary Kathryn Miller (Fulton, Ky./Fulton City HS) and Kapria Manning (Olive Branch, Miss./Center Hill HS). After Washburn again battled back to a 19-all tie, the Lady Bucs scored three straight to regain the lead for good at 22-19 on a Miller kill, and the teams traded points until CBU won 25-22 on a Wadsworth kill.
• The Ichabods jumped to early leads of 7-2, 11-3 and 15-4 in the second set en route to a 25-11 win, hitting .458 in the set.
• Washburn hit .310 in the third set, jumping to leads of 5-2, 9-4 and 12-5, and they pulled away to a 16-8 lead before CBU scored four straight to pull within 16-12 on a Wadsworth kill. CBU later drew within 19-16 on another double-block by Miller and Manning before the Ichabods scored the last six points to win 25-16. 
• After a back-and-forth start to the fourth set, Washburn scored six straight to take a 15-10 lead they would not relinquish. The Lady Bucs trimmed the deficit to 17-15, but a five-point run extended the Ichabods' lead to 22-15 on their way to a 25-17 win to clinch the match.

KEY STATS:
• Emma Lenoir (Chattanooga, Tenn./East Hamilton HS) racked up 18 kills and 14 digs to lead the CBU offense.
• Alexa Henderson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie HS) dished out 39 assists with nine digs.
• Wadsworth notched nine kills, three digs and two assists.
• Manning had 11 digs, eight kills and three blocks.
• Blythe Clausen (Hendersonvile, Tenn./Pope John Paul II HS) garnered a match-best 21 digs.
• Ke'alohilani Wong (Honolulu, Hawaii/Kamehameha HS) added 12 digs.

Arkansas Tech 3, CBU 0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-13):
WHAT HAPPENED:
Host Arkansas Tech (13-0) hit .390 as they swept a three-set match from the Lady Bucs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs used a six-point run to take a 10-8 lead in the first set. The Golden Suns out-scored CBU 17-8 the rest of the way, however, pulling away to a 25-16 win.
• Arkansas Tech hit .522 in the second set as they jumped to early 5-0 and 7-1 leads they would not relinquish en route to another 25-16 set win.
• After a 4-4 start to the third set, ATU used a 6-2 burst to take the lead for good at 10-6. After the Lady Bucs pulled within 11-9 on a Miller kill, the Golden Suns outscored CBU 14-4 the rest of the way.

KEY STATS:
• Lenoir led the Lady Bucs with 12 kills.
• Henderson dished out 24 assists.
• Clausen garnered 10 digs.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs play two more games at Arkansas Tech Saturday, facing No. 15 Central Missouri at 9 a.m. and St. Edward's at 1 p.m. Their next home match is their GSC opener Tuesday night at 6 p.m. as they host Union.
