Tigers Down Lady Bucs in GSC Opener

LIVINGSTON, Ala.-Host West Alabama claimed a four-set win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs in CBU's first GSC road match of the season.

West Alabama 3, CBU 1 (25-20, 25-22, 18-25, 25-17):
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Tigers (10-5, 2-0 GSC) hit .357 as they won the opening set 25-20, spoiling what had been an early 7-5 CBU (7-9, 2-2) lead.
• The second set saw UWA hit .208 as they used a six-point run to take a 12-6 lead early. CBU rallied within 18-17 later, but the Tigers held on for a 25-22 win.
• The Lady Bucs jumped to a 4-0 lead in the third set, but after falling behind 12-11, they closed with a 14-6 run to win 25-18.
• The Tigers took a quick 3-0 lead in the fourth set, but CBU rallied to take leads of 8-6 and 10-7. UWA rallied for a 17-12 lead before the Lady Bucs knotted the set at 17, but UWA closed the match out with eight straight points to win 25-17 and seal the match.

KEY STATS:
• Emma Lenoir (Chattanooga, Tenn./East Hamilton HS) had 13 kills and 10 digs to lead the Lady BUcs' offense.
• Erica Maurer (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) added seven kills with two blocks.
• Mary Kathryn Miller (Fulton, Ky./Fulton City HS) rapped out six kills with three aces and two blocks.
• Blythe Clausen (Hendersonvile, Tenn./Pope John Paul II HS) garnered 11 digs.
• Alexa Henderson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie HS) dished out 26 assists.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs hit the road this weekend, visiting Montevallo Friday night at 6 p.m. and West Georgia Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Their next home match is Friday, Oct. 6, when they host Valdosta State at 7 p.m.
