HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-Host Alabama Huntsville ended the third quarter on a 15-2 run to regain the lead for good Saturday as they defeated the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 75-68.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• UAH (10-4, 4-3 GSC) opened the game with a 10-3 run capped by a Chandler Elder layup with 7:16 remaining in the opening quarter.
• CBU (4-8, 3-3) scored six straight late in the quarter to come within 16-14 on a
Courtney Banks (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) layup with 2:40 remaining.
• The teams traded runs in the second quarter. First, the Chargers regained a 27-20 lead when Elder capped a 6-0 burst with two free throws with 6:22 remaining. The Lady Bucs answered with seven straight to tie the game at 27 on an
Emily Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) triple  with 4:52 remaining in the half.
• UAH used two 5-0 bursts around a 6-0 CBU spurt to take a 37-33 lead at halftime on an Allie Bolton triple with 1:06 remaining in the half.
• The Lady Bucs opened the second half with a 12-2 run, taking their largest lead of the day at 45-39 when
Kenzie Jones (Park Hills, Mo./Central HS) sank a triple with 6:00 remaining in the quarter.
• The Chargers answered with a 15-2 run, taking a 54-47 lead into the fourth quarter as Loren Foster sank a triple as the third quarter ended.
• CBU cut the deficit to one possession four times in the fourth quarter, last when a Reeves triple cut the deficit to 70-67 with 3:03 remaining. The Lady Bucs were 0-for-6 from the field with two turnovers in the final three minutes, however, as UAH stretched out the 75-68 final margin.
KEY STATS:
• Banks posted team-highs of 14 points, five assists and two steals for CBU.
• Jones added 13 with six rebounds and three assists.
•
Brynne Lytle (Jackson, Tenn./Trinity Christian Academy) tacked on 10 points.
•
Mikaela Blissett (Oran, Mo./Scott County Central HS) gabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to go with eight points and three assists.
• CBU shot 35.4 percent (23-of-65) from the field, including a season-high 44.0 percent (11-of-25) from beyond the arc. UAH finished 45.6 percent (26-of-57) overall, including 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from three-point range.
• Each team grabbed 40 rebounds, but CBU held a 15-10 lead in offensive boards. The Lady Bucs committed 11 turnovers to the Chargers' 10.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs return to action Tuesday night at 6 p.m. as they visit North Alabama. Their next home game is set for Saturday, Jan. 13, when they host Valdosta State at 1 p.m.
