Lady Bucs Rally Past Panthers in Crossover Opener

ORLANDO, Florida-After dropping the first set, the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs rallied to win the next three and defeat Florida Tech in four sets Friday afternoon in their first match in the 2018 South Region Crossover.

CBU 3, Florida Tech 1 (15-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-23)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Panthers (6-17) took advantage of nine CBU attack errors in the first set, using a 10-2 run to take a 15-9 lead they would not relinquish in a 25-15 win.
• The Lady Bucs (11-14) responded in the second set as they hit .483, building an early 7-3 lead and pulling away with a 9-1 run capped by a Miaya Smith (Memphis, Tenn./St. George's Independent School) block that gave them a 17-8 edge. FIT never came closer than five again in a 25-16 CBU win.
• CBU used a 6-1 burst to pull away in the third set, turning a 9-8 edge into a 15-9 one that they would build to as many as seven points before Smith capped the set with a kill to win 25-21.
• The fourth and final set saw seven ties and six lead changes. FIT led as late as 22-20 before the Lady Bucs closed the set, and the match, with five of the last six to win 25-23 on an Emma Lenoir (Chattanooga, Tenn./East Hamilton HS) kill.

KEY STATS:
• Lenoir hit .426 with 30 kills, 15 digs, two blocks and an ace for 32 points, setting new school records for kills and points in a four-set match. Her 30 kills rank third in school history overall, and her 32 points are tied for second. She set both records in a win at Union last month.
• Smith hit .417 with 12 kills and three blocks, scoring 14 points.
• Mollie Wadsworth (Hernando, Miss./Northpoint Christian HS) added nine kills and two digs.
• Joze Smith (Atoka, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) racked up a team-high 21 digs with three assists.
• Blythe Clausen (Hendersonville, Tenn./Pope John Paul II HS) logged 12 digs.
• Alexa Henderson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie HS) dished out 49 assists with seven digs.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs play two more matches in the South Region Crossover tomorrow, facing Rollins at 9 a.m. and Eckerd at 3:45 p.m. Their next home match is Tuesday, Oct. 30, when they host Union at 7 p.m.
