VALDOSTA, Georgia-Host Valdosta State won the last two sets to claim a four-set win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Friday night after the teams split the first two sets.
Valdosta State 3, CBU 1 (25-13, 18-25, 25-20, 25-20)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Valdosta State (9-11, 5-3 GSC) hit .423 in the opening set. After the teams split the first 14 points, VSU broke a 7-all tie with a five-point run to take the lead for good. VSU scored 13 of the final 17 as they pulled away to a 25-13 win.
• CBU (8-13, 2-7) scored four straight early in the second set to take a lead they would not relinquish. After the Blazers closed within one at5-4, CBU used another three-point run, and the Blazers never came closer than three again. CBU led by as many as eight in a 25-18 win.
• In the third set, VSU broke a 5-all tie with a 6-1 run to open an 11-6 lead, and they never allowed the Lady Bucs closer than two points in a 25-20 win.
• The Blazers opened the fourth set with a 5-1 run and they never trailed, using five-point runs to open leads of 13-7 and 19-9. CBU came as close as 24-20 before the Blazers closed it out at 25-20.
