JEFFERSON CITY, Tennessee-The Christian Brothers University tennis team opened the 2018-19 campaign with wins in two of three matches on a road trip across the state.

The Bucs opened the season with a win over Tennessee State at Vanderbilt's Currey Tennis Center. After the Bucs dropped the doubles point 2-1, CBU claimed four of the six singles victories. Junior Paul Chabaud claimed the first win of his CBU career at No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 6-1 to put the Bucs on the board along with a forfeit win at No. 6 singles. After

CBU improved to 2-0 as they swept all six singles matches at Carson-Newman after dropping the doubles point 2-1. Chabaud again won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, winning 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Marvin Gebhardt won his CBU debut at No. 5 singles, winning 6-3, 6-1, while sophomore Philip Johnston also won his CBU debut at No. 6 singles, winning 6-3, 7-6.

Tennessee Wesleyan handed CBU its first loss of the season in the second match of the day Saturday, edging them 4-3. Chabaud again won at No. 1 singles, winning 15-13 in a 36-minute tiebreaker for a 6-2, 7-6 win. Gebhardt rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, and
