MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs rallied from a six-point deficit in the last minute to force overtime on their way to a 76-73 overtime win over LeMoyne-Owen Thursday night at Canale Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The teams traded runs early, with the Lady Magicians (0-3) using a 7-0 burst to open a 20-14 edge on a Dana Gettis layup with 6:53 remaining in the second quarter.
• After CBU (1-0) drew within a point late in the second, LeMoyne-Owen used an 11-2 burst to take their largest lead of the night, 44-34, on a Gettis triple with 7:08 remaining in the third.
• The Lady Bucs stormed back with a 12-2 run to tie the game at 46 on a
Lauren Taylor (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) layup with 56 seconds remaining in the quarter.
• LOC answered with an 8-2 burst to take a 54-48 lead, but again the Lady Bucs had an answer, scoring five straight to come within 54-53 on a
Kelsey Adkins (Lawrenceburg, Tenn./Lawrence County HS) layup with 5:05 remaining.
• The Lady Magicians scored the next six to take a 60-53 lead on two Chrissah Shaw free throws with 2:57 remaining, and a Shaw triple with 1:08 remaining seemed to seal the game.
• Adkins answered with a layup, and after an LOC free throw, she sank two more free throws to cut the deficit to 64-61 with 26 seconds remaining. After both teams traded empty possessions,
Kenzie Jones (Park Hills, Mo./Central HS) drew a foul on a three-point shot with 1.1 seconds remaining, sinking all three free throws to send the game to overtime.
• The teams traded buckets early in overtime, but back-to-back layups by Adkins and Jones gave CBU a 72-69 lead with 1:09 remaining, and the Lady Bucs made 4-of-6 free throws in the final 30 seconds to salt away the victory.

HEAD COACH SARAH CONDRA'S THOUGHTS:
On the game:
"Well I wish I could say (it was never in doubt). It was pretty stressful there for a minute."
On fighting back:
"Our execution wasn't great, especially defensively. We've got a lot of things to work on there, but as far as effort and competitive spirit, I think they showed me a lot. They never laid down, and they could have done so easily when we got down 10. We didn't shoot the ball well, and we get down, and we get a call for Kenzie and she goes to the line and makes three clutch free throws. We just never gave up and that is something I told them in the locker room. We can work on the execution, but as long as we've got that effort, we'll be ok."
On the number of threes:
"We are trying to get out and run a little bit. There are certain players that we are going to let shoot that. And if it's wide open and in transition, we're going to let them take it. Tonight we didn't shoot the ball well, we shot 34% from the field and 18% from three. And if we shoot a higher percentage, that game doesn't get into overtime. We got a lot more shots, and that is what we're looking for, but we want to just get to the point where we're making them."
On Kelsey Adkins (Lawrenceburg, Tenn./Lawrence County HS):
"Five assists, two turnovers, this kid worked hard this summer. She knew that she had to carry some of the load in the post and she's tough. And she put in a lot of work and it's paying off. With her size, it doesn't have to matter if you have the heart and the strength and the toughness and I think Jesse's got it and she showed it tonight."
On the freshman performance:
"Emma is going to be a real good player, as she gets more and more comfortable. She's a solid player, she runs our offense and I think she understands it. There's still some freshman growth to be had, from knowing the offense, to knowing what all of your options really are. So, we're one step at a time on that. But she's been solid around the basket, as far as being able to gather yourself and get some easy shots. I thought she played really well."
"Lauren plays really tough. She's little but she's physical and I thought she gave us some really good minutes."
"Kayla didn't get many minutes tonight. She went in and banged her knee but I think she's going to be a real big player in this league. She's athletic and she's presents a lot of problems when she gets going, and she's a great player. "
"Some big minutes from our freshman. They're growing. They're getting better everyday in practice. I've seen a tremendous amount of growth since the beginning of the season and even since the Austin Peay game."
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs play their next four games on the road, beginning with an exhibition game at UT-Martin Monday morning at 11 a.m. Their next home game is Tuesday, Dec. 4, when they host Lane at 5 p.m.
