Lady Hawks Sweep Lady Bucs

MEMPHIS-Visiting Shorter took advantage of errors by the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs as they claimed a three-set win Friday at Canale Arena.

Shorter 3, CBU 0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-21)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs (12-19, 3-12 GSC) jumped to an early 7-2 lead, but Shorter (11-15, 7-8) answered with a seven-point run and never trailed again. The Lady Bucs tied the set as late as 14-all before Shorter closed with 11 of the last 13 points to win 25-16.
• Early in the second set, neither team could gain an edge, with nine ties and six lead changes, the last being when a five-point Lady Hawks run gave them a 20-16 edge after CBU had taken a 16-15 lead. The Lady Hawks extended their lead to 23-18, eventually holding on for a 25-23 win after CBU used a 5-1 burst to come within a point.
• The third set saw Shorter jump to early leads of 6-1 and 8-2, leading by as many as seven at 12-5 before the Lady Bucs used a 7-2 burst to close within 14-12. CBU cut the deficit to two points seven more times, last at 23-21, but Shorter scored the final two to win 25-21 and complete the sweep.

KEY STATS:
• Emma Lenoir (Chattanooga, Tenn./East Hamilton HS) led CBU with 12 kills and 15 digs, adding an ace and a block.
• Miaya Smith (Memphis, Tenn./St. George's Independent School) hit .421 with 10 kills and four blocks.
• Mollie Wadsworth (Hernando, Miss./Northpoint Christian HS) added eight kills.
• Joze Smith (Atoka, Tenn./Tipton-Rosemark Academy) notched 12 digs.
• Blythe Clausen (Hendersonville, Tenn./Pope John Paul II HS) added 11 digs with an ace.
• Alexa Henderson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie HS) had 33 assists with seven digs.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs wrap up the 2018 campaign Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. as they host Lee for Senior Day. Before the match, CBU will honor its two seniors, Clausen and Henderson.
