Bucs Collect Huge Road Win over Choctaws

CLINTON, Miss. – Following their historic win over the weekend over AUM, the Christian Brothers University men's hoops picked up right where they left off, shooting lights out in an 82-57 win over Mississippi College in A.E. Woods Coliseum on Monday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The first seven minutes were back-and-forth with neither team collecting more than a two point lead, but a Jacob Lyons (Hernando, Miss./Christian Brothers HS) layup gave CBU the lead, 16-14 with 13:08 remaining in the first half, and the Bucs never looked back.
  • That bucket from Lyons sparked a 7-0 run for the Bucs, propelling them to a six-point lead.
  • Just a few minutes later, Luke Rudy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills HS) strung together consecutive threes, followed by a put-back layup, and CBU garnered their first double digit lead, 30-18.
  • Fortunately for the Bucs, their hot shooting did not relent after halftime. The Bucs shot their way to a 16-2 run in the second half, a stretch where they connected on 6-of-7 field goal attempts.
  • The Buccaneers gathered their largest lead (75-45) off an Aiden Ruthsatz (Edgewood, Ky./Covington Catholic HS) jumper with 6:03 remaining in the game.
KEY STATS:
  • Coming off his record-breaking performance, Gulf South player of the week candidate Luke Rudy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills HS) continued his hot streak from behind the three-point line. Rudy scored 20 points (5-of-5 3FG) and hauled in five rebounds in 29 minutes.
  • While Joe Laravie (Kettering, Ohio/Alter HS) did not score 30 points like he did over the weekend, he still put together quite an impressive performance, scoring 24 points to go with four rebounds. Laravie should 10-of-15 from the field, including 4-of-5 from behind the arc.
  • Again Adam Dieball (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lakota East HS) put together another well-rounded performance, posting 11 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists. Tonight's game marks the fourth double-double of the season for Dieball, a team-high.
  • Tonight's game marks the first time CBU has scored at least 82 points in consecutive games since the Bucs did it three times last year from 1/27-2/3 against Shorter (89), North Alabama (99), , and Alabama Huntsville (85) in the middle of a five-game win streak.
  • The win over the Choctaws gives CBU sole possession of third place in the Gulf South Conference. At 3-1 in the league, CBU only trails Lee and West Alabama in the standings. The Bucs will play host to Lee in the first game of 2019.
UP NEXT:
  • After some well-deserved time off for the holiday season, the Bucs will return to action Monday, December 31st when the hit the road to face Harding in Searcy, Arkansas. The Bucs triumphed the Bisons, 90-74 in their first meeting of the season.
