ST. LOUIS, Missouri- The Maryville University Saints started off hot with an 8-0 run against the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs and never looked back as they led the entire ballgame, as they ran away with a 97-84 victory against the Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Stephanie Sherwood scored the first eight points for the Saints (5-3) as she made two three pointers assisted by Kayla Steward and a layup which came off of a pass from Mary Barton. These points were the first eight points of the game as well, the Saints came out of the gates strong with an 8-0 run and they never looked back as they held the lead for the entire game.
- The Lady Bucs (3-4) made their biggest push to close the lead late in the first half as they went on a 17-7 run to narrow the score to 39-35. This was the closest, to the lead, the Lady Bucs got for the rest of the game.
- With two minutes remaining in the game, Kenzie Jones (Park Hills, Mo./Central HS) made a layup to bring the Lady Bucs within six from the lead, but two consecutive baskets from the Saints to answer was enough for them to edge out the 97-84 victory.
KEY STATS:
- Jones led the scoring for the Lady Bucs with 25, which came with four rebounds and three assists.
- Brynne Lytle (Jackson, Tenn./Trinity Christian Academy) finished the game with 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
- Rachel Lee (Jackson, Tenn./Jackson Christian School) tallied 11 points, four assists, two rebounds, and three steals.
- The Lady Bucs shot 45.8 percent (27-59) from the field, including 42.3 percent (11-26) from downtown, and 76 percent (19-25) from the line. The Saints finished shooting 51.6 percent (33-64), while shooting 43.5 percent (10-23) from three, and 77.8 percent (21-27) from the free throw line.
- The Saints out rebounded the Lady Bucs 36-32, including an edge in offensive (12-11) and defensive (24-21) rebounds.

The Lady Bucs return back to Canale Arena Saturday, December 15th at 1PM as they are up against conference foe Auburn-Montgomery.
