MONTGOMERY, Alabama-Shorter used three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to take a 7-0 lead on their way to a 7-4 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Sunday afternoon in CBU's final game of the GSC Opening Weekend Festival.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Shorter (6-3, 2-0 GSC) opened the scoring in the top of the fourth with three runs on two doubles, two singles and a walk.
• An inning later, the Lady Hawks added four more on four singles, a hit batter and an error.
• CBU (3-8, 0-3) scored four in the bottom of the seventh.
Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) started the inning with a leadoff single but was erased when
Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) grounded into a force play.
Abby Ferreira (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus HS) singled, and
Savannah Rosevear-Goetsch (Arrington, Tenn./Fred J. Page HS) followed with a single to score Parsels. A two-run
Sierra Anderson (Olive Branch, Miss./Lewisburg HS) double cut the deficit to 7-3, and
Ashlyn Hinton (Anniston, Ala./White Plains HS) scored Anderson with a single to left, but a strikeout and a popout ended the game.
KEY STATS:
• Anderson went 1-for-2 with a double, a run and two RBI. She also threw two and two-thirds innings of relief, allowing two unearned runs on three hits.
• Rosevear-Goetsch was 1-for-2 with a walk, a run and one RBI.
• Ferreira went 1-for-3 with a run.
• Hinton was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
• Johnson went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs hit the road again Saturday for a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Montevallo. Their home opener is set for Wednesday, Feb. 28, when they host Lane for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
