ARKADELPHIA, Ark.-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs split two games in the Ronnie Hawkins Invitational Saturday, defeating Lincoln (Mo.) 5-1 before losing 5-3 in nine innings to Northeastern State (Okla.).
GAME 1: CBU 5, Lincoln (Mo.) 1
WHAT HAPPENED:
Sophomore
Julia Schassburger (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central HS) scattered five hits and two walks over seven innings, allowing just one run as the Lady Bucs turned 10 hits into five runs in the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• CBU (1-1) gave Schassburger all the run support she would need in the bottom of the first on four singles.
Maddi Welch (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) and
Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) each singled with one out. With two away,
Savannah Rosevear-Goetsch (Arrington, Tenn./Fred J. Page HS) and
Julia Schassburger (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central HS) followed with RBI singles to bring them home and give CBU a 2-0 edge.
• The Blue Tigers (0-1) answered with a run on a walk and two singles in the top of the third.
• The Lady Bucs set the final margin in the bottom of the fifth.
Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) reached on a one-out error and stole second. After a two-out Johnson walk,
Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) singled Oyhenart home, and Rosevear-Goetsch followed with a two-run single up the middle to give CBU a 5-1 lead.
KEY STATS:
• Rosevear-Goetsch went 2-for-3 with three RBI in her CBU debut.
• Johnson was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs.
• Schassburger went 2-for-3 with one RBI at the plate, and she threw seven innings, allowing one run on five hits and two walks, striking out two.
• Parsels was 1-for-4 with a run and one RBI.
GAME 2: Northeastern State (Okla.) 5, CBU 3 (9 innings)
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Riverhawks (3-1) scored three runs in the top of the sixth to force extra innings then two more in the ninth to rally for a 5-3 win over the Lady Bucs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• CBU opened the scoring in the bottom of the third when Oyhenart hit a two-out double and scored on a Welch single up the middle.
• The Lady Bucs extended their lead to three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Singles by
Jacqueline Conlan (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS), Welch and Johnson loaded the bases with two out, and Parsels hit a two-run single to give CBU a 3-0 edge.
• The Riverhawks tied the game in the bottom of the frame with three runs on a walk, two singles and a double.
• After the Lady Bucs stranded runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh, the game went on to extras.
• In the top of the ninth, the Riverhawks pounced quickly as Paige Gann hit a leadoff two-run homer, also scoring the international tiebreaker runner that was placed on second to start the inning.
KEY STATS:
• Parsels was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
• Welch went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, a run and one RBI.
• Oyhenart was 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs.

Sierra Anderson (Olive Branch, Miss./Lewisburg HS) threw four scoreless innings, allowing three hits and a walk.

The Lady Bucs return to action Sunday with two more games in the Ronnie Hawkins Invitational. They face Southwest Baptist (Mo.) at 11 a.m. before facing host Ouachita Baptist at 3 p.m. in the tournament finale.
