Lady Bucs Swept on Sunday in Arkansas

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs couldn't overcome giving up a five-run inning in each game as they lost twice Sunday in the Ronnie Hawkins Invitational, falling 8-6 to Southwest Baptist and 7-2 to host Ouachita Baptist.

GAME 1: Southwest Baptist 8, CBU 6
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Bearcats (1-3) scored five runs in the top of the sixth to rally after CBU (XXX) had led 4-2 after five innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Bearcats opened scoring in the top of the third with two runs on a walk, three singles and a groundout.
• CBU answered with three in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. Maddi Welch (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) started the rally with a two-out single, and she moved to third on an Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) double. After Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) walked to load the bases, Savannah Rosevear-Goetsch (Arrington, Tenn./Fred J. Page HS) was hit by a pitch to plate Welch. Julia Schassburger (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central HS) followed with a two-run single up the middle to score Johnson and Parsels and give CBU a 3-2 lead.
• The Lady Bucs added a run to their lead in the bottom of the fourth with another two-out rally. Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) reached on a two-out single. After stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch, she scored on a passed ball.
• SBU regained the lead for good with a five-run sixth on three singles, a double, an error and a pair of RBI fielder's choices.
• CBU scored twice in the bottom of the frame. Abby Ferreira (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus HS) reached on a two-base error and moved to third on a passed ball, scoring on a Katelyn Cherry (Atwood, Tenn./West Carroll HS) single. After stealing second, Cherry moved to third when Marquisha Sanders (Millington, Tenn./Millington Central HS) reached on a fielder's choice, and she scored on a Welch groundout.
• A leadoff homer by Stormy Greathouse extended the Bearcats' lead to 8-6 in the top of the seventh.
• The Lady Bucs put two runners on in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to score.

KEY STATS:
• Oyhenart went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run.
• Welch was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run, a stolen base and one RBI.
• Parsels went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.
• Schassburger was 1-for-4 with two RBI. She also pitched five innings, allowing two runs as she scattered five hits and two walks.
• Ferreira went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run.
• Cherry was 1-for-4 with a stolen base, a run and one RBI.

GAME 2: Ouachita Baptist 7, CBU 2
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Tigers (2-2) scored five runs in the bottom of the second, turning a 2-1 CBU lead into a 6-2 Ouachita lead en route to a 7-2 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs jumped for two runs in the first. Oyhenart, Welch and Johnson led off the game with three consecutive singles to load the bases with no outs. Parsels drove Oyhenart in on a fielder's choice, and after Welch was out on the play, Parsels scored on a wild pitch with one out.
• Ouachita used a single, a sacrifice and a double to score a run in the bottom of the first.
• The Tigers plated five runs in the second on four singles, a double and a homer.
• OBU set the final margin with another run in the fourth on a walk, a steal and an error.

KEY STATS:
• Oyhenart was 2-for-4 with a run.
• Savannah Rosevear-Goetsch (Arrington, Tenn./Fred J. Page HS) went 2-for-3.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs play six games in Huntsville, Ala., next weekend, beginning Friday at 2 p.m. when they face Missouri-St. Louis, followed by a 4 p.m. game against Tuskegee. CBU's home opener is set for Wednesday, Feb. 21, when they host LeMoyne-Owen for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
