MEMPHIS-No. 24 West Florida scored in five of the game's six innings as they pulled away to a 12-4 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Sunday afternoon at Bland Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Argos (14-8, 5-4) struck first with three runs in the first on two singles, a walk and a two-run Rhiannon Sassman homer.
• UWF plated two more in the second on a hit batter and two doubles.
• CBU (5-15, 1-9) scored a run in the bottom of the second inning.
Abby Ferreira (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus HS) walked with one out and moved to third on a
Sierra Anderson (Olive Branch, Miss./Lewisburg HS) double. After
Savannah Rosevear-Goetsch (Arrington, Tenn./Fred J. Page HS) walked to load the bases,
Ashlyn Hinton (Anniston, Ala./White Plains HS) was hit by a pitch to score Ferreira.
• UWF scored two more in the sixth on three walks, a hit batter and a single.
• The Argos tacked on four more in the fifth on a walk, three singles and two doubles.
• The Lady Bucs scored three in the bottom of the inning.
Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) hit a leadoff single and moved to third on a
Maddi Welch (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) double.
Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) followed with an RBI double, and Ferreira doubled to score Welch and Johnson.
• UWF set the final margin with a run in the sixth on a pair of doubles.
