MEMPHIS-Visiting West Alabama swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday, claiming a 7-4 win in the opener and winning 12-2 in the nightcap.
GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
After the teams traded crooked numbers in the first inning, West Alabama held on for a 7-4 win in the series opener.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Tigers (11-19, 7-10 GSC) opened the scoring with four runs in the first on a hit batter and four singles, all with none out.
• CBU (7-24, 1-16) answered with three in the bottom of the inning.
Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) led off with a single but was out when
Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) grounded into a force play.
Maddi Welch (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) followed with a single, but she was out when
Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) grounded into a force play. Johnson stole home successfully on a first-and-third double-steal, and a wild throw allowed Parsels to come all the way around to score.
Sierra Anderson (Olive Branch, Miss./Lewisburg HS) followed with a solo homer, the first of her career, to left-center to cut the deficit to 4-3.
• UWA tacked on a two-out run in the second on two walks, a single and a hit batter.
• The Tigers scored two more in the sixth on a hit batter and two doubles.

Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) hit her first homer of the season in the bottom of the sixth, a two-out shot to left-center that brought the Lady Bucs within 7-4.

• Parsels went 1-for-3 with a homer, two runs and one RBI.
• Anderson was 1-for-3 with a homer, a run and one RBI.
GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Tigers scored 11 runs in the last three innings as they pulled away to a 12-2 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• UWA struck first with a run in the top of the first on a double and a single.
• The Lady Bucs tied the game at 1 with a run in the bottom of the inning. Johnson drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a Welch single. A throwing error on a Parsels sacrifice brought Johnson home to tie the game.
• CBU took its first lead in the bottom of the second when
Ashlyn Hinton (Anniston, Ala./White Plains HS) blasted her first career homer to left-center.
• The Tigers regained the lead for good with five runs in the third on a walk, two hit batters, three singles and a double.
• UWA added three more in the fourth on four singles.
• The Tigers set the final margin with three in the fifth on two singles and a two-run Kendall Johnson homer.
