No. 6 Statesmen Pull Away From Bucs

CLEVELAND, Mississippi-No. 6 Delta State scored 10 runs over the final four innings as they pulled away to a 12-2 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• DSU (24-6, 14-3 GSC) opened the scoring with two in the third, on three singles.
• The Statesmen added three more in the fifth, taking advantage of a walk, two singles, a wild pitch and an error.
• The Bucs (9-24, 3-15) scored two runs in the top of the sixth. Jared Cramer (Olive Branch, Miss./DeSoto Central HS) started the inning with a single, scoring on a Parker Jordan (Southaven, Miss./Briarcrest Christian HS) double, and Jordan took third on the throw home. A Larry Hubbard (Collierville, Tenn./St. George's Independent HS) sacrifice fly plated Jordan to cut the deficit to 5-2.
• DSU answered with two in the bottom of the inning on a one-out walk and a two-run Brian Lane homer.
• The Statesmen ended the game with a five-run eighth inning, on back-to-back homers by David Herrington and Lane as well as two doubles, two singles, an error and a hit batter.

KEY STATS:
• TJ Klutts (Atoka, Tenn./Brighton HS) went 2-for-4 with a double.
• Jordan was 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, a run and one RBI.
• Cramer went 1-for-3 with a run.
• Jaime Soto (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS) was 1-for-3 with a walk.
• Taylor Angley-Holman (Redding, Calif./Enterprise HS) went 1-for-3 with a walk.
• Hubbard was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
