CLEVELAND, Mississippi-Host Delta State scored in all but one inning as they swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Friday afternoon.
GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
DSU (20-16, 11-9) scored in all four innings they batted as they rolled to a 9-1 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• CBU (7-27, 1-19) scored a run int he top of the first.
Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) singled and stole second. After moving to third on a
Maddi Welch (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) groundout, she scored on an
Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) single.
• The Lady Statesmen scored three in the bottom of the inning, on two singles and two doubles.
• DSU added four more in the second on two singles and two homers.
• The Lady Statesmen tacked on a run in the third on a double and two errors.
• DSU set the final margin with a fourth-inning run on a leadoff homer by Jordan Jones.
KEY STATS:
• Johnson went 2-for-2 with a stolen base and a run.
• Parsels was 1-for-2 with one RBI.
GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Lady Statesmen exploded for 10 runs int he first on their way to a 13-5 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Again, the Lady Bucs scored first.
Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) and Johnson singled with none out, and they scored on a two-out
Sierra Anderson (Olive Branch, Miss./Lewisburg HS) double.
• DSU scored 10 in the bottom of the inning on seven singles, three doubles and two walks.
• CBU plated three in the third. Oyhenart led off with a single, and she moved to third on a Welch single. Parsels reached on a three-base error, bringing both home, and she scored on An Anderson groundout.
• The Lady Statesmen added two more in the third on a walk and two singles.
• DSU tacked on another tally in the fourth on three singles.
KEY STATS:
• Oyhenart went 2-for-3 with two runs.
• Johnson was 2-for-3 with a run.
• Welch went 2-for-3 with a run.
• Anderson was 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI.
WHAT'S NEXT:
