Maddi Welch (Munford, Tenn., Munford HS) hit a walkoff homer to lead off the seventh inning and lift the Lady Bucs to a dramatic 8-7 win over West Georgia Sunday afternoon for their first Gulf South Conference win of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Wolves (12-6, 5-4 GSC) scored twice in the first on two doubles and a single.
• UWG added another run in the second on two singles, a walk and a sacrifice fly.
• The Lady Bucs (4-13, 1-8) exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the second. Savannah Roesvear-Goetsch started the inning with a one-out walk. After moving to second on a passed ball, she scored on a
Sierra Anderson (Olive Branch, Miss./Lewisburg HS) single. With two out,
Ashlyn Hinton (Anniston, Ala./White Plains HS) worked a walk, and
Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) followed with her second triple of the game to score Anderson and Hinton.
Maddi Welch (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) singled Oyhenart home. After an
Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) single,
Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) brought singled Welch home, and an error brought both Johnson and Parsels in to give CBU a 7-3 lead.
• A Lexi Close homer in the third shaved a run off the CBU lead.
• The Wolves tied it with three two-out runs in the second on a single, a walk, a pair of stolen bases, a sacrifice fly and a two-run homer by Peyton Stallworth.
• Welch homered on a 2-2 pitch to start the seventh, launching a fly ball over the fence in straightaway center.
KEY STATS:
• Welch finished 2-for-4 with a homer, two runs and two RBI.
• Oyhenart went 2-for-4 with two triples, a run and two RBI.
• Johnson was 20for-3 with a stolen base and a run.

Jenna Cotter (Collierville, Tenn./Houston HS) earned the win with three and a third perfect innings of relief, retiring all 10 batters she faced with one strikeout.
