MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs split a doubleheader with Williams Baptist Wednesday, winning the opener 12-7 before dropping a 6-3 decision in the second game.
GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Lady Bucs (5-14) jumped to an early 10-2 lead en route to a 12-7 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Eagles (2-4) opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first on two singles and a double.
• CBU exploded for five runs in the bottom of the inning.
Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) led off with a single and stole second. After a
Maddi Welch (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) single, an
Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) single brought her home.
Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) drove Welch in with a single to left-center, and
Savannah Rosevear-Goetsch (Arrington, Tenn./Fred J. Page HS) was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out.
Sierra Anderson (Olive Branch, Miss./Lewisburg HS) reached on an error to bring Johnson in and give CBU a 3-2 lead.
Shelby Crocker (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) was hit by a pitch to score Parsels, and
Ashlyn Hinton (Anniston, Ala./White Plains HS) completed the rally with a single to left-center to plate Rosevear-Goetsch.
• The Lady Bucs added five more in the second. Welch was hit by a pitch, and singles by Johnson and Parsels loaded the bases for
Abby Ferreira (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus HS), who hit an RBI single. Rosevear-Goetsch and Anderson were hit by back-to-back pitches to score two more runs. A Hinton single to left scored Rosevear-Goetsch, and Welch was hit by a pitch to bring Anderson home.
• The lead remained 10-2 until two out in the top of the fifth, when WBC's Bailey Zini hit a three-run homer after a pair of singles.
• CBU nearly ended the game in the bottom of the fifth. Anderson and Crocker singled, and pinch-runners
Marquisha Sanders (Millington, Tenn./Millington Central HS) and Kaitlin Cherry ended up on second and third with two out. Singles by Oyhenart and Welch scored them, and a Johnson bunt single loaded the bases, but a flyout in the gap kept the game alive.
• The Lady Eagles set the final margin with two runs in the seventh on a single, a double and an error.
KEY STATS:
• Johnson went 4-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
• Welch was 3-for-3 with two hit by pitches, two runs and two RBI.
• Oyhenart went 3-for-5 with a stolen base, a run and one RBI.
• Hinton was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
• Parsels went 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Lady Eagles jumped to a 5-0 lead and held on for a 6-3 win over the Lady Bucs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• WBC opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first on a walk, two stolne bases and a passed ball.
• The Lady Eagles tacked on another in the third on a double and a single.
• WBC pulled away with three runs in the fifth on three singles, two walks and an error.
• CBU scratched out a run in the bottom of the fifth. Crocker singled to right-center. Pinch-runner Sanders stole second and scored on an Oyhenart single through the left side.
• The Lady Bucs scored twice more in the bottom of the sixth. Johnson led off with a single and moved to third on a passed ball, scoring on a Parsels single. Parsels stole second and moved to third on a groundout, coming home on an Anderson single up the middle.
• The Lady Eagles scored once more in the seventh on a hit batter and a double.

• Johnson went 2-for-4 with a run.
• Oyhenart was 2-for-4 with a stolen base and one RBI.
• Parsels went 1-for-3 with a stolen base, a run and one RBI.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs' series against West Florida at Bland Field has been pushed back due to rain in the forecast. The teams will meet for a single game at 2 p.m. Sunday, with a doubleheader set for noon Sunday.
