Lady Bucs Swept at AUM

MONTGOMERY, Alabama-Host Auburn-Montgomery swept a doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday, edging CBU 3-2 in the opener before winning 10-2 in the nightcap.

GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Warhawks (27-15, 17-13 GSC) scored two in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie, and they held on for a 3-2 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Bucs (9-37, 1-29) struck first with a run in the top of the first. Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) and Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) led off with back-to-back singles. After a Maddi Welch (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) sacrifice put them on second and third, an Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) sacrifice fly scored Oyhenart for the game's first run.
• AUM answered with a third-inning run on a single and two errors.
• The Warhawks took the lead with two in the fourth on two singles and a triple.
• CBU closed within a run in the top of the seventh when Jenna Cotter (Collierville, Tenn./Houston HS) launched her team-leading fourth homer of the season to left with one out. After a two-out Abby Ferreira (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus HS) single put the tying run on base, a popout ended the game.

KEY STATS:
• Cotter went 1-for-3 with a homer, a run and one RBI. She also threw two scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts against one hit.
• Welch was 1-for-2 with a sacrifice.
• Oyhenart went 1-for-3 with a run.

GAME 2:
WHAT HAPPENED:
AUM converted three Lady Buc errors into eight unearned runs in a 10-2 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Warhawks turned two errors into five unearned runs in the second, also taking advantage of a walk, three singles and a double.
• CBU scored twice in the top of the third as Savannah Rosevear-Goetsch (Arrington, Tenn./Fred J. Page HS) hit a leadoff single ahead of Ashlyn Hinton (Anniston, Ala./White Plains HS), who blasted a two-run homer down the left field line, her second of the season.
• AUM plated three more unearned runs in the fourth on two singles, a double and an error, all with two out.
• The Warhawks added a run in the fifth on a triple and a single.
• AUM set the final margin in the sixth on a leadoff homer by Kendall Tucker.

KEY STATS:
• Hinton went 1-for-2 with a homer, a run and two RBI.
• Rosevar-Goetsch was 1-for-2 with a run.
• Sierra Anderson (Olive Branch, Miss./Lewisburg HS) went 1-for-2.

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Lady Bucs close out their non-conference slate Wednesday afternoon as they visit Bethel for a 3 p.m. doubleheader. They return home Saturday at 1 p.m. as they host Union for a doubleheader.
