CLINTON, Mississippi-Host Mississippi College swept a Sunday doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs, winning the opener 8-5 before claiming a 5-2 win in the second game.
GAME 1:
WHAT HAPPENED:
MC (24-11, 15-8 GSC) jumped to an early 5-0 lead and held on for an 8-5 win in the first game of the doubleheader.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Lady Choctaws opened the scoring with four runs in the first on an error, a walk, two singles and a double.
• MC added a run to its lead in the second on a two-out single and an RBI double.
• CBU (7-31, 1-23) scored three runs in the fourth.
Olivia Parsels (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) and
Sierra Anderson (Olive Branch, Miss./Lewisburg HS) opened the inning with back-to-back singles, and
Savannah Rosevear-Goetsch (Arrington, Tenn./Fred J. Page HS) was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out.
Abby Ferreira (Santa Clarita, Calif./Saugus HS) hit a sacrifice fly to score Parsels, also reaching on an error.
Ashlyn Hinton (Anniston, Ala./White Plains HS) followed with an RBI groundout to cut the deficit to 5-2. After
Holly Oyhenart (Menifee, Calif./Paloma Valley HS) was hit by a pitch to load the bases back up,
Amber Johnson (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) hit an RBI single, but Ferreira was tagged out trying to score.
• The Lady Choctaws scored three more in the bottom of the inning on a double, an RBI single and a two-run homer by Brianna Caldwell.
• The Lady Bucs scored twice in the top of the seventh to set the final margin.Â

WHAT HAPPENED:
Mississippi College scored five runs over the middle three innings as they claimed a 5-2 win to complete the sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• MC struck first with two runs in the bottom of the third, capitalizing on two walks, a hit batter and a two-run single.
• The Lady Bucs scored a run in the top of the sixth.
Maddi Welch (Munford, Tenn./Munford HS) reached on an error, moving to second on a Parsels sacrifice bunt. She scored on an Anderson single.
• The Lady Choctaws scored twice in the bottom of the inning, on two singles, a walk and two sacrifice flies.
• MC added a run to its lead in the fifth on three consecutive one-out singles.
• Parsels set the final margin with a leadoff homer to left in the top of the sixth.
KEY STATS:
• Johnson went 2-for-3.
• Oyhenart was 2-for-4.
• Parsels went 1-for-2 with a sacrifice, a homer, a run and one RBI.
