ROME, Ga. – The Christian Brothers University women's basketball team held off a late rally, and held on to defeat Shorter 74-64, in a wire-to-wire win, at the Winthrop-King Centre on Thursday. The victory for CBU was its second straight, and third in the last five games.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- CBU (7-9, 4-7 GSC) came out of the gate firing on all cylinders, starting the game with an 18-0 run, while holding Shorter (1-16, 0-10 GSC) without a made basket until the 5:19 point of the opening frame. The Lady Bucs dominated the opening 10 minutes, taking a 30-8 lead into the second quarter.
- The Lady Bucs cooled off in the second quarter, but outscored the hosts 18-17 to take a 48-25 lead into halftime.
- Shorter fought its way back into the game in the third quarter, outscoring CBU 25-13.
- The hosts got to within 61-58 with 5:41 remaining, but CBU closed the game with an 11-4 run (including eight free throws) to finish the game.
KEY STATS:
- Rachel Lee was a force on both ends of the floor, scoring a team high 21 points (7-15 FG, 6-10 3FG), to go along with eight rebounds and three steals.
- Kenzie Jones scored in double figures for the eighth straight game, finishing with 16 points and seven rebounds.
- Despite recording just 10 field goal attempts, Brynne Lytle finished with 19 points, while also grabbing six rebounds, with two assists and a steal. The sophomore shot a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line.

- The Lady Bucs will look to win their third straight game, on Saturday, Jan. 26, as they travel to Carrollton to face West Georgia. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
