MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University women's basketball team outscored host LeMoyne-Owen 38-25, in the second half, in a 52-51 victory, on Wednesday at Bruce Hall - Johnson Gymnasium. The game marked the season opener for the Lady Bucs and the first for new head coach
Jessie Carmack.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The hosts led 11-3 after the first quarter, taking advantage of a poor shooting start by CBU, that saw the Lady Bucs go 0-11 from the floor.
- CBU scored seven quick points in the second quarter, cutting the lead to 13-10, but the Lady Magicians went on a 13-4 run to lead 26-14 at the half.
- The third period belonged to the Lady Bucs, as they were 7-of-17 from the floor and 7-for-7 from the free throw line outscoring the hosts 22-10.
- In a forth quarter that saw a frantic pace, CBU trailed 48-43 with 3:20 left.
- After a jumper from Sydney Wilson, Lauren Taylor knocked down a three pointer with 1:15 left tying the game at 48.
- LeMoyne-Owen responded with a three pointer of their own, but Wilson cut the lead to 51-50 with 34 second left.
- Following a missed layup, the Lady Bucs ran the floor and Taylor scored what proved to be the winning layup with just six seconds left.
KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
- In her first official collegiate game, Wilson led the Lady Bucs with 13 points to go along with six rebounds.
- Lauren Taylor led CBU with eight rebounds.
- The last two season openers, between CBU and LeMoyne-Owen have been decided by a combined four points. CBU won 76-73, in overtime, last season.
