MEMPHIS - Visiting Valdosta State took advantage of 24 turnovers, scoring 28 points, and held on for a 75-69 win over the Christian Brothers University women's basketball team, on Saturday at Canale Arena. The game was the Gulf South Conference opener for both teams.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- CBU grabbed a brief 10-9 lead, but the Lady Blazers closed the first quarter on a 7-0 run.
- Darcy Doran converted a three point play to give CBU a 25-23 advantage with 5:17 left in the half, but VSU responded with a 10-2 run to take a 33-27 lead into halftime.
- CBU trailed by as many as nine points in the third quarter. but an 11-4 spurt cut the VSU lead to 47-45 going into the final quarter.
- A pair of free throws by Brynne Lytle tied the game at 47 with 9:31 left.
- VSU scored 13 points over the next four minutes to take a 60-51 lead.
- The Lady Blazers hit 10-of-12 free throws down the stretch to hold on for the win.
KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
- VSU scored 28 points off 24 CBU miscues.
- VSU converted 10 more free throws than CBU attempted (21-for-27 - 8-of-11).
- Brynne Lytle led all scorers with 25 points, on 9-of-19 shooting, including 4-of-8 from three point range. Lytle played all 40 minutes of the contest.
- Taylor Williams one assist shy of a triple double, as she finished with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
- Chasity Pope finished with a career-high 17 points.
- CBU finished with a 44-34 advantage on the glass.
- The Lady Bucs shot a season best 43 percent (26-for-60) and made a season high nine three pointers.
