MEMPHIS - The Christian Brothers University women's basketball team held visiting West Florida to just six points in the first quarter and seven in the fourth in a 66-54 victory, on Monday night at Canale Arena. The victory marked the first Gulf South Conference win of the season for the Lady Bucs (2-2, 1-1 GSC) and the first in the coaching career of
Jessie Carmack.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- CBU owned the first quarter, holding UWF to just six points on 3-of-13 shooting. The Lady Bucs led 14-6 after the first 10 minutes.
- UWF bounced back to outscore the Lady Bucs 19-15 in the second quarter, cutting the CBU lead to 29-25 at the half.
- The Argos took the lead for the first time when Danielle Norquest knocked down a three pointer to make it 35-32, with 6:49 left in the third quarter.
- The teams exchanged the lead for the next two minutes, until the Lady Bucs took the lead for good on a jumper by Darcy Doran with 4:15 remaining in the third.
- UWF closed the quarter on a 6-0 spurt to cut the lead to 52-47.
- The visitors went on a 7-2 run to open the fourth quarter, making it a 56-54 game with 4:55 left.
- The CBU defense stood strong, not allowing a point the rest of the contest, helping it earn the win.
KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
- Lauren Taylor tied her career-high with 18 points and 10 rebounds, going 5-for-8 from beyond the three point line.
- Brynne Lytle added 17 points and seven rebounds.
- The Lady Bucs knocked down a season high 11 three pointers (11-for-29).
- CBU finished with a 34-33 advantage on the glass.
- The win over UWF was just the second for CBU in its last 10 tries.
