JACKSON, TENN. - Union (RV) outscored the Christian Brothers University women's basketball team 17-7 in the third quarter, and held on for a 79-67 victory, on Thursday night at Fred DeLay Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first quarter featured a strong offensive performance that saw the teams combine for 19-of-34 from the floor, and ended with the hosts holding a 25-20 lead.
- CBU outscored the Lady Bulldogs 17-15 in the second quarter to help cut the lead to 40-37 going into halftime.
- Union took control of the game in the third quarter, holding the Lady Bucs to just 3-of-15 from the floor including 1-of-7 from three point range.
- The Lady Bulldogs shot 58 percent (7-for-12) in the frame, and took a 57-44 lead into the final quarter.
- CBU trailed by as many as 21 in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Bucs finished the last 4:20 with a 18-11 run to win the fourth quarter 23-22.
KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
- Union finished the game 30-of-59 from the floor, including 6-of-13 from long range. The Lady Bulldogs helped their cause by going 13-of-19 from the free throw stripe.
- CBU was 27-for-61 from the field, shooting 10-for-24 from three point range and just 3-of-7 from the free throw stripe.
- Union outscored the Lady Bucs 40-22 in the paint.
- Taylor Williams led CBU with 21 points and five assists.
- Brynne Lytle added 20 pints and a team-high seven rebounds.
- Darcy Doran poured in 12 points and added five rebounds and three steals.
- The game marked the first time that CBU has been outrebounded since the season opener.
