Lady Bucs Fall to Henderson State

MEMPHIS - Visiting Henderson State led wire-to-wire in a 71-60 victory over the Christian Brothers University women's basketball team, in non-conference action, on Wednesday evening at Canale Arena. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Henderson State opened the game on a 10-2 run, and ended the quarter with a 22-11 lead. 
  • HSU shot 9-of-16 in the first quarter.
  • The Lady Bucs cut the lead to 33-25, with 2:26 left in the half, but scored five of the next eight points to take a 38-28 lead into halftime.
  • With two minutes left in the third quarter, a pair of free throws by Darcy Doran got the Lady Bucs to within 49-43.
  • Lauren Taylor hit a layup at the horn, but CBU found itself trailing 53-45 going into the final quarter.
  • A three pointer by Taylor Williams, with 7:48 left in the game cut the deficit to 53-50. 
  • Following the basket by Williams, Henderson State took control of the game as the Lady Reddies scored the next 11 points. 
  • HSU held the Lady Bucs to just five points over the final 3:30 to hold on for the win. 

KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
  • HSU finished the game shooting 44 percent (28-of-63) from the floor. The Reddies also converted 10-of-13 from the free throw line.
  • CBU was 24-of-60 (40 percent) from the field. 
  • Six different players scored at least eight points for Henderson State.
  • The Lady Bucs were outrebounded 41-32, which is the highest margin of the season by a CBU opponent. 
  • Lauren Taylor scored a career-high 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. It is her second straight double-double and her third of the season. 
  • Brynne Lytle tied for a game-high with 20 points. Her 19.8 points per game lead the Gulf South Conference.

The Lady Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Dec. 21 when they travel to Cleveland, Tenn., to face No. 5 Lee. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
