HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Christian Brothers University softball team pounded out 20 hits, but saw its comeback effort fall short, dropping a 14-8 decision to Bellarmine, on Sunday, to close out the Charger Chillout. CBU scored two runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.

- Bellarmine scored seven runs in the eighth inning to take control of the game.

- CBU finished the game with a 20-14 advantage in hits.

Kendall Westbrooks led the Lady Bucs with four hits in five trips.

Marquisha Sanders finished with three hits apiece.

KEY PLAYS:
- CBU threatened in the bottom of the first, but had two runners thrown out attempting to steal
second.
- The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a solo home run by Samantha Smith.
- CBU tied the game in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by
Julia Schassburger, that
scored
Kendall Westbrooks.
- Bellarmine regained the lead in the top of the third on an RBI double, down the left field line by
Grace Werner.
- The Lady Bucs responded in the bottom of the inning, when Westbrooks delivered an RBI single,
with two outs, tying the game at two.
- Bellarmine regained the lead in the top of the fourth on a two out double that fell into right center
field, and added to the lead when Sydey Oskin slapped a single through the right side.
- The Knights made it 5-2 in the fifth on a two out single by Smith.
- In the bottom of the fifth, CBU got to within 5-4 on an RBI single by
Sierra Anderson and a
sacrifice fly by
Macy Cumming.
- Bellarmine made it 6-4, in the top of the sixth, on a two out triple by Sydey Oskin.
- The Lady Bucs responded, cutting the lead to 6-5, on a bloop single by
Maddi Welch.
- In the top of the seventh Bellarmine increased its lead to 7-5, using a sacrifice fly.
- CBU responded once again, stringing together a pair of singles to start the inning. With the Lady
Bucs down to their final out, pinch hitter
Ashlyn Hinton delivered a run scoring single through the
left side. Facing the same situation,
Marquisha Sanders laid down a bunt to score pinch-runner
Rylee Nelson.
- With the international tiebreaker in effect Bellarmine batted around, using four hits and taking
advantage of two errors, scoring seven runs in the eighth.
- In the bottom half of the inning, Anderson recorded an RBI single to complete the scoring.
NOTEWORTHY:
- The 20 hits for CBU are the most since recording 24 against LeMoyne-Owen (3.31.15).
- The four hits by Westbrooks are a career-high and are tied for the most by a CBU player this
season. She has reached base safely in seven straight contests.
- Dyer's three hits are a career-best. The freshman has recorded multiple hits in three of the last four
games. She currently leads the team with four contests with multiple hits.
- Sanders also collected a career-best three hits.
- Welch, who now has three games with three hits, has recorded an RBI in six games.

- The Lady Bucs are scheduled to begin Gulf South Conference play when they travel to West Florida for a three-game series on Saturday, Feb. 16. First pitch is
