MEMPHIS, Tennessee- The West Alabama Tigers erased a, 19 point, first quarter deficit, to defeat the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 65-63.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Lady Bucs (9-13, 6-11 GSC) came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, as they scored the first 10 points of the game, which led to a 19 point lead at the end of the first quarter (26-7).
- The second quarter was all West Alabama's. The Tigers copied what the Lady Bucs did in the first quarter, as they scored the first 10 points of the quarter, which brought them within six points, going into the break (34-28).
- The third quarter was slightly edged by The Tigers, as Tasza Garrett-Hammett (8 points) led the Tigers to outscore the Lady Bucs, in the quarter, 19-17. After three quarters, the Lady Bucs held the small advantage over the Tigers 1(51-47).
- A Rachel Lee free throw pushed the Lady Bucs to a one point lead with 1:12 remaining in the game, but the Tigers' J'Nyiah Daniels answered with two of her own, which gave the Tigers the lead that they held until the final buzzer (65-63).
KEY STATS:
- The Lady Bucs played lockdown defense, in the first half, as they held the Tigers to shooting only 17.65 percent.
- Lee led the Lady Bucs' scoring with 15 points, which came along with three rebounds and three assists.
- Brynne Lytle scored double-digits for the 13th consecutive game. Her final stat line was 14 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and two assists. She was only two rebounds away from a double-double.
- Freshman, Lauren Taylor, led Lady Bucs in rebounding with nine rebounds. She also tallied five points, two blocks, one assists, one steal, and one block.
