Montevallo Uses Big Innings to Sweep Lady Bucs

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Montevallo used a 10-run inning in game one and a had a pair of two run innings in game two, in a doubleheader sweep of the Christian Brothers University Softball team, on Sunday at Orr Park. 
 
 
FINAL SCORE: GAME ONE | Montevallo 18 (11-5, 2-2 GSC), CBU 3 (3-10, 0-4 GSC) (5)
 
GAME CHANGER:
- In the fifth inning, Montevallo sent 15 batters to the plate, leading to 10 runs. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Falcons finished the game with a 13-5 advantage in hits. 
- UM took advantage of six CBU errors, scoring six unearned runs. 
- Five different players recorded hits for the Lady Bucs.  
- Montevallo finished the game with five extra base hits. 
- Ashley Dyer's triple in the first inning was the only CBU hit for extra bases.
- Maddi Welch and Elizabeth Busby drove in runs for the Lady Bucs.
- CBU used three different pitchers, including Sierra Anderson, who took the loss. 


KEY PLAYS:
- CBU took its only lead of the game in the bottom of the first inning, when Ashley Dyer, who led off the inning with a triple, scored on a failed pickoff attempt.
- Montevallo answered with two runs in the second inning, which came via a pair of CBU errors. 
- The Falcons scored two more runs in the third, using a squeeze bunt and a sacrifice fly. 
- CBU responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning, on a sacrifice fly by Welch, that made the score 4-2.
-  Montevallo scored four more runs in the fourth, capitalizing on pair of errors. 
-  CBU scored its final run of the game in the fourth, on an RBI groundout by Elizabeth Busby.  
- The Falcons ended the game, via the mercy rule, scoring 10 runs in the fifth, on seven hits, while sending 12 batters to the plate.

NOTEWORTHY:
- Dyer has reached base safely, in the first inning in six of the last seven games. 
- Welch has an RBI in nine of 14 games.  
 
FINAL SCORE: GAME TWO | Montevallo 6 (12-5, 3-2 GSC), CBU 1 (3-11, 0-5 GSC) 
 
GAME CHANGER:
- Montevallo starting pitcher, Amanda Ingram, held CBU to just three hits in game two.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Falcons outhit CBU 10-3.
- Dyer, Welch and Anderson had the three hits for CBU. Welch had the only RBI. 
- Julia Schassburger allowed three runs, on six hits, with four strikeouts and six walks, in five innings.


KEY PLAYS:
- The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, on an RBI single and a bases loaded walk.
- CBU answered in the bottom half of the inning, on Welch's RBI single. 
- Montevallo added a run in the third on an RBI single and a pair in the sixth.  
- The Falcons finished the scoring in the seventh, when they plated a run on an RBI single.

NOTEWORTHY:
- Dyer has reached base safely, in the first inning in seven of the last eight games. 
- Welch has an RBI in 10-of-15 games.  
 
 
 NEXT TIME OUT:
- The Lady Bucs are scheduled to wrap up the series with Montevallo on Monday, Feb. 25. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
