Montevallo Powers Past Lady Bucs

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Behind five runs in the opening frame, and an additional nine runs in the fourth, the Montevallo Falcons powered by the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs softball team 18-0 on Monday.
  • GAME CHANGER:
    • After scoring five runs in the leadoff inning, Montevallo piled on nine more runs in the fourth.
  • INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
    • The Falcons had more runs than hits (18 against 17).
    • UM drew seven walks, compared to the Lady Bucs three.
    • The Falcons crushed nine extra base hits, with eight doubles and a triple.
    • Starting pitcher Sierra Anderson allowed five earned runs on five hits in 1.0 innings of work. She was relieved by Julia Schassburger who lasted 3.0 innings, allowing three earning runs on five hits as well.
    • Ashley Dyer recorded the Bucs only hit, a lead-off single in the bottom of the first. Dyer finished the game 1-for-2. Anderson drew a walk in both of her at-bats.
  • KEY PLAYS:
    • UM scored five runs in the first inning off of four hits and two walks. The Lady Bucs threatened in the bottom of the inning, putting runners on the corners with two outs, but a strikeout ended the threat.
    • The Lady Bucs were retired in order in both the second and third. The Falcons piled on an additional run in the bottom of the third to take a 6-0 lead.
    • 13 batters came to the plate in the Falcons big fourth inning, leading to nine runs to give the Falcons a 15-0 run.
    • The Lady Bucs led the fifth inning off with a walk, but followed that up with a double-play. A strikeout ended the game for CBU.
  • NOTEWORTHY:
    • Dyer has reached base safely in eight out of the last nine games.
  • NEXT TIME OUT:
    • The Lady Bucs play the first game of the season at Bland Field on Wednesday. They are set to host Lemoyne-Owen, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
