Lady Bucs Split on Day Two of Charger Chillout

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- After falling 5-1 to Kentucky Wesleyan, the Christian Brothers University softball team bounced back with an 11-3 (6) win over Miles, on day two of the UAH Charger Chillout. 

GAME 1: KWC 5 (2-1), CBU 1 (2-5)
 
GAME CHANGER:
- After allowing a leadoff triple to Ashley Dyer, KWC pitcher Bailey Woodall allowed just two more hits the rest of the game. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Panthers finished the game with an 11-5 advantage in hits. 
- Dyer's triple and a home run by Kendall Westbrooks were two of the three hits for CBU.  
Julia Schassburger (1-3) allowed two runs, on six hits, in 3.2 innings. 
- Eight different CBU players recorded hits.

KEY PLAYS:
- After leading off the game with a triple, Dyer was stranded on third base. 
- KWC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, on an RBI single. 
- The Panthers added to their lead with a run in the third inning. In that inning, KWC had the bases loaded with no outs, but was held to just one run.  
- CBU scored its lone run of the game in the fourth on the home run by Westbrooks. Her solo shot cut the lead to 2-1. 
- The Panthers added to their lead with two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth, to complete the scoring. 

NOTEWORTHY:
- The home run for Westbrooks was the first of her career, and the first of the season for CBU. The home run also marked her second straight game with a hit for
  extra bases.
- Dyer has recorded a leadoff triple in two straight games. 

Game 2: CBU 11 (3-5) Miles (1-8) (6)
 
GAME CHANGER:
- The Lady Bucs took advantage of five walks, including two with the bases loaded, in the three run second inning. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- CBU finished the game with an 11-8 edge in hits, four of which were for extra bases.
- Dyer was 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Mackenzie Puckett finished 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. 
- Seven CBU players finished with at least one hit. 
- Puckett (1-1) also got the win in the circle, allowing one run, on four hits, in three innings. 

KEY PLAYS:
- CBU scored three runs in the second inning, two of which came via bases loaded walks. 
- The Lady Bucs added three more runs in the third, on a bases clearing triple by Dyer. 
- After Miles scored a run in the third, fourth and fifth innings, CBU grew its lead to 7-3 on an RBI single by Abby Ferreira.
- CBU scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game via the mercy rule. Westbrooks, Sierra Anderson, Puckett and Katelyn Cherry all drove in runs
  in the inning. 

NOTEWORTHY:
- Dyer has recorded a triple in three straight games. By comparison, the CBU leaders for triples in 2018, finished with three. She has driven in at least two runs in three
  of the last four games. 
- Westbrooks has reached base safely in all six games.  
- Puckett finished with multiple hits for the first time in her collegiate career. 
- Welch has at least one RBI in five of the seven games this season. 

NEXT TIME OUT:
- The Lady Bucs are scheduled to wrap up the Charger Chillout on Sunday, Feb. 10 against Bellarmine. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
