MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Behind a five-run seventh inning, the Alabama Huntsville Lady Chargers beat the Christian Brothers University softball team, 7-2, on Friday at Bland Field.
GAME CHANGER
Right-fielder Shannon Long hit a three-run homer for the Lady Chargers (13-6, 3-1 GSC) to give it the 7-2 lead.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-Ashley Dyer led all Bucs, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
-Kendall Westbrooks went 1-for-3, including a clutch single with an RBI.
-Mackenzie Puckett went 1-for-2 with a single and a walk in her three plate appearances.
-Sierra Anderson threw a complete game for the Lady Bucs, giving up seven runs and striking out two.
-The Lady Chargers outhit CBU 11-5.
KEY PLAYS
-The Lady Bucs (5-13, 0-7 GSC) took a 1-0 in the opening frame behind a Kendall Westbrooks single back up the middle. She scored Ashley Dyer who opened the game with single to the left fielder.
-Dyer scored again in the third inning, giving the Lady Bucs a 2-0 lead. She reached base safely on a single, and immediately stole second before scoring on a Lady Chargers error.
-The Lady Chargers notched things even at two in the top of the fourth off doubles from Alaina Hampton and Taylor Wascavage.
-Long's homer put the Lady Chargers over the top, as part of a five-run seventh.
NOTEWORTHY
-Dyer continues to impress in her freshman campaign, reaching base in 15 straight games for the Lady Bucs. She now has multiple hits in seven games.
