MEMPHIS – No. 16
Alabama Huntsville scored 26 runs and 31 had hits in doubleheader sweep of the Christian Brothers University softball team, on Saturday at Bland Field. UAH took the opener 15-2 (5) and secured the sweep with an 11-3 victory in game two.
GAME ONE: UAH 15 (14-6, 4-1 GSC), CBU 2 (5-14, 0-8 GSC) 2
- GAME CHANGER:
- UAH combined for nine runs in the first two frames, and added on six more in the fourth.
- INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Both CBU runs came from solo home runs. Macy Cumming blasted a shot over the center field wall in the third, her first of the year. Kendall Westbrooks' homer came one inning later.
- The Lady Chargers had six extra base hits, four of which came in the first two innings, including a two-run home run.
- Both Abby Ferreira and Mackenzie Puckett went 1-for-2 with singles.
- Starting pitcher Julia Schassburger lasted an inning and two-thirds, giving up seven runs on six hits. Cumming closed for the Lady Bucs, hurling 3.1 innings.
- KEY PLAYS:
- UAH took an early 3-0 lead when Amber Hammonds smacked a single, pushing two runners across the plate. Hammonds scored the following at-bat off an Alaina Hampton double.
- The Hammonds-Hampton combination made an appearance in the second inning when Hammonds doubled to right field for an RBI and Hampton hit a home run to score two more.
- Cumming got the Lady Bucs on the board in the third inning, with a solo home run.
- The Lady Chargers strung together several hits in the fourth, including three in a row (plus a walk) to score six runs in the frame.
- Westbrooks gave CBU its second run of the game with her solo home run.
- NOTEWORTHY:
- Westbrooks leads all Lady Bucs with three home runs on the season; she is also third on the team with 12 RBI.
- The home run for Cumming was the first of her career.
- Dyer's had her reach base safely streak end at 16 games.
GAME TWO: UAH 11 (15-6, 5-1 GSC), CBU 3 (5-15, 0-9 GSC) 3
- GAME CHANGER:
- UAH posted four runs in the opening frame and never looked back.
- KEY PLAYS:
- UAH posted four hits and a walk (including a two-run home run) to go up 4-0.
- The Lady Bucs loaded the bases, with one out, in the bottom of the second, but the Lady Chargers got out of the jam unscathed.
- CBU broke through in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs, on a walk and hits from Kendall Westbrooks and Mackenzie Puckett, cutting the deficit to 6-2.
- Continuing to close the gap, the Lady Bucs posted an additional run off Dyer's sac-fly that scored Cherry.
- Leading 6-3, UAH responded in the fifth inning, scoring three runs off four hits, including two doubles, to extend the lead to 9-3.
- The Lady Chargers tacked on a single run in both the sixth and seventh inning, to get the final margin of victory, 11-3.
- NOTEWORTHY:
- With her 2-for-3 performance at the plate in game two, Dyer sits second on the team in batting average (.381). She leads all CBU players with 24 hits, three doubles, and five triples.
- Kaitlyn Cherry's day at the plate gives her two multiple hit games this week, with the other coming against LeMoyne-Owen.
- CBU had 17 hits over the three game series, which is the most against UAH in a three-game series in team history.

- The Lady Bucs hit the road, on Wednesday, March 6, for a non-conference doubleheader at GSC member West Georgia. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
