MEMPHIS – Visiting Delta State held on for a 4-2 victory over the Christian Brothers University softball team, on Sunday at Bland Field.
FINAL SCORE: Delta State 4 (19-9, 9-6 GSC), CBU 2 (6-21, 1-13 GSC)
GAME CHANGER:
- Trailing 4-2 in the fifth inning, CBU had the bases loaded but DSU pitcher Nicole Fullilove forced a groundout to end the threat.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Lady Statesmen finished the game with a 9-4 edge in hits.

Julia Schassburger had one of her best outings of the season, allowing three earned runs, on nine hits, in seven innings of work.
KEY PLAYS:
- DSU opened the scoring in the second, using a solo home run.
- One inning later, the Lady Statesmen capitalized on a CBU miscue to to increase the lead to 2-0.
- The Lady Bucs responded in the bottom half of the inning, when Dyer smacked an RBI double.
- Both teams added a run in the fourth inning. CBU cut the lead to 3-2, when
Sierra Anderson slapped a line drive home run to left field.
- After DSU increased its lead to 5-2, in the fifth inning, the Lady Bucs had the bases loaded, with two outs, but Fullilove got out of the jam.
- CBU left a runner stranded in the sixth inning, but was retired in order in the final inning.
